rather late but here we go

It was a very exciting and busy time in the run up and after the event not to mention the day itself. It all ran smoothly on the day after a few last minute hitches. We are lucky to have Siobhan from New Zealand stand in as a very good Mad Hatter as we were let down in the last week Siobhan was staying in the area and was a good sport donning a top hat and twirling her umberella despite the rain. Tracy and her team at the Feathers pulled out all the stops and not only provided us with their function room but a wonderful colourful balloon entrance . The winner was unable to attend as it was a 4 hour drive for him and with a 6 month old baby who hadnt been well couldnt come. We were lucky that Adrian Dangar stood in for Andrew Pern who was going to present the winner and runners up as one of his staff's wivees had had a permature baby during the night and they had a wedding party in so Andrew was needed to step in.But happy to say the show went on . The decorations looked good and the bunting spectacular thank you Christine for pressing it all . Christine of the Bentley's Wool shop up High Street in Helmsley and her son James had patiently knitted yards and yards and yards of bunting for us. We had a good footfall through espically in the morning and so the stalls were doing a good trade and we are pleased that the Yorkshire Air Ambulance were there too. · Certificates will be going out shortly - please be patient . The judging - please dont shoot the messenger, but I will try and explain how the judges found their overall winners. The judging of each jar is scored in 3 parts 10 points for each sections - Presentation/ Set /Taste. The commercials are judged as the rules of selling - on what is supposed to be on the jars ie rather than say 50% sugar 50% fruit it should read per 100 gram . It should be noted the exact ingredients and the source of where they came from . One month to go until entries close

It is decision time .... you have one month left to get your jars in for the 2025 awards . Need inspiration go to Anna Lupton - Pinterest account and look up the World Jam Festival ,there are even recipes to go with these too. You may be digging out your granny's favourite recipes .Sometimes the most straightforward recipes are the best. If you are not a jam maker - think jelly, marmalade or chutney, there are so many different preserves you can put in a jar .The question to be answered Is your jar the show stopper . There is so much fruit to choice from in this garden and the little tree has apricots on . There is a peach tree which I have been nurturing since the one and only peach was formed. We had a deluge of rain and it started to go mouldy so it was quickly get it off the tree and eat it so no peach jam going from here as reckon what was left would have make a very very small jar and probably boiled away in the making
