With over 1400 people coming through the gates in 2026 we all felt it was an amazing event . So with less than one month to go before entries open for this year World Jam Festival we will be updating you with what will be happening this year . Held again by kind permission of Mr and Mrs Compton at Newby Hall on Sunday 27th September . It will be held in the Grantham Room next door to the Dolls House Display Previously, we have had a gold, a silver and a bronze winner in each category. There were many disappointed entrants who did not receive these accolades and as we have always said as the World Jam Festival continues to grow, so does the energy, creativity and sheer talent of our incredible entrants. Every year we are blown away by the time taken and originality on display, and we know that limiting recognition to just a few awards can mean some truly fantastic contributions don’t get the spotlight they deserve. That’s why we’re excited to be exploring how our scoring system ca...

Judging and how decisions are reached

· Certificates will be going out shortly - please be patient . The judging - please dont shoot the messenger, but I will try and explain how the judges found their overall winners. The judging of each jar is scored in 3 parts 10 points for each sections - Presentation/ Set /Taste. The commercials are judged as the rules of selling - on what is supposed to be on the jars ie rather than say 50% sugar 50% fruit it should read per 100 gram . It should be noted the exact ingredients and the source of where they came from . As there is more and more rules on emphasis on catering for disabilities now a day -all labels should be in good sized print, instructions of best before dates .Full contact details .And if there is any need to warn people who have certain dietary needs- to me this was a mine field but as I don' sell mine I don't have to comply to rules . Each judge has their own idea of how they judge so lets try and go through what I gleamed Presentation - The overall l...

One month to go until entries close

It is decision time .... you have one month left to get your jars in for the 2025 awards . Need inspiration go to Anna Lupton - Pinterest account and look up the World Jam Festival ,there are even recipes to go with these too. You may be digging out your granny's favourite recipes .Sometimes the most straightforward recipes are the best. If you are not a jam maker - think jelly, marmalade or chutney, there are so many different preserves you can put in a jar .The question to be answered Is your jar the show stopper . There is so much fruit to choice from in this garden and the little tree has apricots on . There is a peach tree which I have been nurturing since the one and only peach was formed. We had a deluge of rain and it started to go mouldy so it was quickly get it off the tree and eat it so no peach jam going from here as reckon what was left would have make a very very small jar and probably boiled away in the making

And still in great debt to those who helped and made the day possible. It is quite true to say ask a busy person. To Andrew and Fran Pern who's hospitality went above and beyond - on the day and before , to Gilly Robinson for her judging expertise, to Chris Bentley for keeping me sane - well nearly and at last minute to Nancy Walker who guarded the jams and brought light to the day .To our sponsors Ceramic Creations To the many, many people who entered and of course Jack who had to put up with a lot . To Kevin from the Yorkshire Air Ambulance for coming. Thanks to Ella and Angela . Thank you to everyone else who I haven't mentioned who made it all possible Now Kevin also helped set up the banner for Newby Hall which leads me on to the next exciting bit of news. We are pleased to ann...

Australia..

The first of the Australian Jam has arrived and if the label is anything to go by it sounds delicious. Last year the TIPSY section got the most entries. There is a knack of adding alchohol to jam and some people know how to do it and some dont. I, for one tend to get too much liquid on top which is not what you want to achieve but a taste throughout the jam which doesnt take over the flavour of the fruit. The sort of jam you have on a lazy Sunday morning when you savour every bite as you pile it on your croissant.
