First Blog of The World Jam Festival ....Entries are open
This is the first blog of the World Jam Festival and I hope that this and the blogs that follow are of interest to you. Hoping that along the way you will meet other like minded jam makers with a competitive spirit .If you are not competitive join us for the journey in any case.
Covid put a dampener on lots of things, but finally we launched the World Jam Festival last year which was a fun event and a great success.
As I stir some fruit and muscovado sugar in a pan on the Aga I am thinking up more ideas as you do when you are making jam. I find it therapeutic to say the least.
You will have to excuse any spelling errors as I am dyslexic and the computer doesnt always pick up my mistakes, even though I do read the blog over more than once.
Why Muscovado sugar you may wonder well if you dont experiment you will never know whether it tastes better than made some other combination you have previosuly made. The Mad Hatter features a lot in our festival and he is a great one for trying something new.
— also called Barbados sugar, khandsari, or khand — is unrefined cane sugar that still contains molasses, giving it a dark brown color and texture similar to that of wet sand. It's most similar to other unrefined cane sugars like jaggery and panela, but brown sugar can be used as a substitute as well.
It is rainy here this morning so there will be no fruit picking here. I need the sun to come out as I like to pick fruit dry. Raspberries are my favourite but also think they are the blackbirds favourite fruit in our garden too .
I think my 20 minutes is more or less up now as the fruit and sugar is magically turned into jam and needs to go in the jars now .Any longer cooking time will make it go like toffee and it isnt the first time that has happened to me either.
So I hope this will all inspire you to put together one or more entries for the Festival.
You will see on the website www.worldjamfestival.com everything you need to know but please dont hestitate to get in touch if you cant find the answer to what you are looking for .
Entires close and need to be arrive by 1st September 2023
